Our Church History
Welcome to the New Horizons Church Website. We hope and pray you find all you need here, whether you’re a first time visitor or a regular attender.
New Horizons Church is a part of the Australian Christian Churches (ACC, formerly AOG) movement. We are a pentecostal church that believes in the transforming power of the Holy Spirit. For more of “What We Believe” please click that link above.
New Horizons Church was started in 1990 by Pastors Allan and Jennie Herman alongside a faithful team of people. In those days the church was known as Whittlesea Assembly of God. We used the very same building we are using now, however, back then access was limited to Sundays. People arrived early to roll out carpet, set up chairs, sound system etc. We are now the main leaseholders on the building and utilise it for many events, programs and office space throughout the week.
In 1995 Pastor Shane and Millie took on the roles of senior pastors. Under their leadership, the church has continued to grow and flourish, from a congregation of 12 to a congregation of 100+ meeting every Sunday.
In February 2009, Whittlesea, Kinglake and the surrounding suburbs experienced one of the most horrific natural bushfire disasters our nation has seen, Black Saturday. New Horizons Church, along with the other local churches pulled together to reach our community with the hope and love of Jesus. Hundreds of people in the community were affected through the loss of lives and properties, however the churches in the area, and the care they provided remained constant.
In October 2010, the New Horizons Church building received a face lift. People from the church pulled together in giving, planning and building to complete renovations so that the capacity and aesthetics of the building were improved.
In October 2012, New Horizons started a campus church 10 minutes south in Doreen. Pastors Bruce and Meralisa Langford led that campus till the end of 2016. Doreen and Whittlesea campuses have rejoined and are strengthening each other in this season preparing for the next church plant launch.
Today, New Horizons Church is a thriving, Spirit-filled, Jesus-centered church which many people call home. If you are looking for a church to call home, we pray that you will be greeted with a smile, and connected in such a way that you will feel at home in New Horizons Church. We would love to welcome you to our family.
What we believe
Our Vision Statement:
To be a growing multi-generational Christ-Centred Church, who love God and care for the community, empowering and equipping each other to fulfil our God given destinies.
At New Horizons Church we believe:
That the Bible is God’s Word. It is accurate, authoritative and applicable to our every day lives.
In one eternal God who is the Creator of all things. He exists in three Persons: God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit. He is totally loving and completely holy.
That sin has separated each of us from God and His purpose for our lives.
That the Lord Jesus Christ as both God and man is the only One who can reconcile us to God. He lived a sinless and exemplary life, died on the cross in our place, and rose again to prove His victory and empower us for life.
That in order to receive forgiveness and the “new birth” we must repent of our sins, believe in the Lord Jesus Christ, and submit to His will for our lives.
That in order to live the holy and fruitful lives that God intends for us, we need to be baptised in water and be filled with the power of the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit enables us to use spiritual gifts.
That God has individually equipped us so that we can successfully achieve His purpose for our lives which is to worship God, fulfill our role in the Church and serve the community in which we live.
That God wants to heal and transform us so that we can live healthy and prosperous lives in order to help others more effectively.
That our eternal destination of either Heaven or Hell is determined by our response to the Lord Jesus Christ.
That the Lord Jesus Christ is coming back again as He promised.

Roland has been married to Eve for 36 years and is now enjoying an empty nest while his adult sons are off having their own adventures. Roland has a passion for people to be real and transparent and apply God’s Word in practical community-minded ways in their neighbourhoods.

Making a decision for Christ at the age of 20 was indeed a life-changing experience for Rohan. No more hiding in the shadows awaiting human purpose, Rohan was now assured of God’s love and free to be who God had created him to be. His faith prompted him to learn more each day from the Bible and eventually led him to complete theological studies.
Since becoming a Christian he’s worked with children, youth and young adults for the past 27 years in either voluntary or paid positions at several churches, and as a primary and secondary school chaplain. To supplement his church ministry he has worked in architecture, engineering and currently runs a small property maintenance company.
Other than God, his greatest support and best friend is his wife, Liz, and they have two amazing teenager children. Both Liz and Rohan have a passion to train and equip leaders for ministry, to positively influence young people’s lives and see them develop a life changing relationship with Jesus Christ.
Natalie Stoner is the Youth Director at New Horizons Church, a department she has long had an involvement in. Her heart is to see young people transformed, encouraged and empowered by the love of Christ, that they might live out their lives in a deep relationship with Him.
Natalie loves drama and enjoys participating in creative ways to share the gospel within New Horizons and the community of Whittlesea. Her relational style and innovative ways of presenting the gospel make her a wonderful asset to our team.
Natalie is recently married to John, a wonderful man of God who loves to worship and share his faith with others. John is learning the building trade and Natalie is studying for a business degree. Together they make a fantastic team reaching out with God’s love.
Alison de Haan
Alison has been a member of New Horizons Church for fourteen years now. Her love and passion for administration has been very beneficial for our church as she has been doing administration for five years. Her eye for detail and heart for excellence is appreciated in her expert coordination of the service team.
She has played a vital part behind the scenes working with the pastoral team in order that our services run smoothly. She is generous with her time and loves seeing new people feel welcomed and looked after through the coordinating of her team.
Alison has experience in working in admin at a local college, which she has been doing for 13 years. She is married to Tim, a man of God who has humbly served on our sound/AV team for 10 years and is a wonderful support to Alison. She has three gorgeous daughters who are all married and all serving God in their respective churches.
Christina is our newest member to the team filling the important role of Outreach Co-ordinator. Christina is married to Stephen and has three teenage children, Alysha (19), Jaymee (17) and Bradley (15).
Christina’s heart is for the hurting, the lost and the broken. She has a desire to connect with the unconnected. As a teenager, she chose to walk her own path so she knows what it is like to be lost and unconnected. Her desire is to be a light in the darkness as the coordinator for outreach. She wants to lead her team to equip others to know the love of God and to help others to find healing, be it emotional, spiritual, physical, or mental.
Christina comes with many years experience in outreach through her involvement in playgroup and youth group ministries spanning a combined twenty-two years. She holds a traineeship in Pastoral Care and a Diploma in Ministry and Theology.
Christina leads our mainly music ministry and in time we will see some new and exciting opportunities to show the love of Jesus to the people of Whittlesea.
